Breathwork 101

What is Neurodynamic Breathwork?

Neurodynamic Breathwork is a transformational modality that can bring us into an expanded state of awareness. The breather is shown a breathing technique that helps to deepen the breath and is coupled with evocative, loud music. In combination, this will start the incredible journey of self awakening and the breather can attune to their body and emotions. In this state we are able to reconnect to our authentic being. Taking time to quiet the chatter in our mind and connect in this way enables us to live a life with richer purpose, meaning, and empowerment.

Breathwork Principles

There are many guiding principles for Breathwork but Trusting yourself and the process is essential. Transformation comes from within and that is your power. Surrender in Breathwork is beautiful because it does not signify defeat or giving up but instead it opens up the possibility for greater freedom. Surrender opens up all that life has to offer. Trust and surrender in Breathwork can bring you out of your thinking mind that likes to hold on to the stories and scenarios we cling to along with self limiting beliefs. These distractors inhibit our ability to live in the present and simply be in the moment. What you resist persists and the way past is through. These are common phrases you may hear in a Breathwork session. As life material arises it means we are ready and equipped to face it. There are life lessons to learn and in this safe space you have the opportunity to explore, connect, and resolve items that may be holding you, the breather, back. One of my favourite principles is “everything is grist for the mill”. Whatever happens, happens. Whether there are glitches in the music or you are interrupted by family, or in a group someone is being incredibly vocal. Your frustration, anger, joy, laughter:  they are all a part of the Breathwork session. Breathe into the emotion, breathe into the movement you may experience in your body, breathe to deepen and maximize the experience. It is all energy ready to be released.

After a Breathwork session it is important to take time to reintegrate into regular daily activity. Be gentle with yourself and take the time you need. Here are some of the transitional activities to help integrate:  mandala drawing, journaling, taking a shower or bath, getting out in nature, really any quiet activities. There is no limit what you can do to integrate, do what feels right for you. Be kind to yourself and others.

As Breathwork becomes one of your self care activities, you will notice how impactful it can be in your everyday life. It helps to bring a better you to the world.
